Lysefjorden Loop: The 27 Switchback Monster You Can Ride | Ep.1
I've journeyed across Norway to film and document the best loop rides the country has to offer. This series will reveal the countless incredible cycling destinations in the land of the midnight sun.
In episode one, we kick off with an exhilarating climb up one of the world's most renowned roads, Lysevegen. This spectacular route traverses the southern mountain range near Stavanger, featuring a fjord cruise, a challenging 27-switchback climb, and a remote mountain pass and valley, all within a 150 km adventure. In part 2 of the Arctic East 700, we spend the final day cycling the 120km round trip following the Norwegian-Russian border to the Barent Sea. It's a journey that took us by surprise. At certain points, you can nearly touch Russia as the road follows the river which divides the two countries. Would you ride this road? It's one for the memory banks. The Bikepacking Route to the Edge of the World - more reindeer than people
Переглядів 17 тис.7 місяців тому
Three years ago, I mapped a route out in the far Arctic north. You literally cycle the last roads in the Western world. And these are no ordinary roads. Wild reindeer, geological wonders, and a wind-swept environment that only the edge of the world can offer. The only problem is it's a long way to go and finding that excuse can be difficult. That is, until an unexpected opportunity presented it...

Trollstigen, a Drone and 100km of Pure Beauty

In September 2023, 43 riders cycled 100km up and down Trollstigen, Norway's most famous road. I hired a drone operator for the day and he captured over 45 minutes of incredible footage. The original condensed film and story can be found here: ua-cam.com/video/hsJMHMre81Q/v-deo.html This is the 'unedited' version of only drone shots. The Day We Tried to Close Norway's Most Famous Road
Переглядів 10 тис.8 місяців тому
Countries such as Italy, Switzerland and France all have car-free days. It's a day when a famous road is only available to non-motorised forms of travel. Hundreds and even thousands of people join and experience the beauty of the natural world around them without the roar of engines. It is quite astonishing that Norway, with so many famous mountain roads, doesn't have a day like this. It was ti...

On the final day of this trip, we head to Mo i Rana to take the long train journey back to Oslo. However, we have time to cycle one last road and oh boy, is it a good one! Melfjordbotn is one of the loneliest roads in Norway and can only be reached by boat for 7 months a year. Luckily, the road has just opened for the summer season, and I got to experience something exceptional. About the Serie...

Great to have you back. BUT how can I hire a bike and do these rides, I live 15,000km away. I wanted to do the ride to Voss, but its impossible to hire a bike. Do you have any recommendations as I am keen, but not so keen on shipping my own bike across the world on various airlines. Or is the a good way to buy a bike and sell it at the end of the trip. Thanks

Thanks for another episode of great cycling scenes! On my Fjord Norway trip last year I really wanted to do a detour from Stavanger in order to cycle the loop, but I was too spent after all the vertical meters the days before (And the wheather was not so good anyways. It would have simply ended one of those bad reviews - just kidding 😅).

Russia is huge. In fact, she is the largest country in the world. Why she still wants Ukraine? Is it because Putin wants to control both the Azov and Black Seas? Let's be realistic. But, to Putin, 'realistic' means the land he wants to annex. It's all greed and imperialistic ambition. Period.

Many places of Norway are damaged due to those damn cruiseships….polluting the air, polluting the view, makes traffic jams, makes overfilled places with people so you cant force you through… Yes, there are still places to go….but…. Just look at the first shots from Geiranger… Right now i am in Molde…paid for hotel, but no places to park the car as busses occupy the road throug parking spaces, drive in not allowed. And i paid for a room with a fiord view…..but to what avail when the MSC cruise ship occupy the complete view just outside the hotel window …doooooh ! Last year i wasted hours on trollstigen due to those damn busses from cruiseships, blocking the road….!

Hello there! I myself was in Norway to bikepack 2 years ago and had to scratch after a short while because of covid. I really want to go to norway again, but without repeating a crcuail mistake I made. I found myself on alot of state roads, highways and very active roads that where super dangerous to ride on with the ammount of cars on them and the overall speed. How did you avoid these and how did you go about mapping out your route ?
